Science of scented attraction?

I'm just trying to get an idea of what's going on. Is there any validity to smelling out potential mates of dissimliar MHC? Supposedly it makes you more compatible for mating but for women they say that oral contraceptives can have an impact on finding the right mate (and you should smell out for someone whilst off the pill). As for someone who can't ovulate without oral contraceptives, how much of an impact would that have on finding a genetically compatible mate. Or is a bunch of hogwash and it's all about physical and attraction to personality. Thoughts?
