Science question please help need more!?!?!?

i need to find the numbers and kinds of atoms or ions contained in the following compounds NaCl,CO2,KBr,NH3,MgO, can someone tell me how to find them or what the answers are?

  1. I'm assuming for CO2 and NH3 the numbers are smaller and in the bottom left corner.

    anyways, each element's name on the periodic table starts with a capital letter and the rest are lower case, so for example:

    in NaCl you can see that the Na is one element and then the Cl is another because it starts with a capital letter again.

    As for the little numbers, that just tells how many of that element there is. for example:

    CO2 means there is one "C" atom and 2 "O" atoms. if there isnt a little number beside the element name it just means there is only one of that type of atom.

    so, for example, for NH3 there is one nitrogen atom, and 3 hydrogen atoms. I'll let you do the rest on your own or I wouldn't be teaching you anything =P


  2. Pretty sure you have to look at your valency table

    For NaCl look up Na and then Cl

    Or just wiki/google Na and it should tell you.
