What you need is a periodic table. Then look up all of the symbols and figure it out.

H2O has two hydrogens and one oxygen. Stuff like that.

There's the best periodic table I could find on google, if your text book is newer, there's usually really good ones in the back.

NaCI stand for sodium (Na) chlorine (CI)...

Ions are electrically charged atoms that have more or less electrons than a balanced atom.
