ok ive asked his a million times but ive had very little helpful responses so i figured i would try this one more time. if you know of any topics that you think are cool or that are new in science could you please tell me about them? i do have access to labs and programs at stonybrook university and i will need a topic that i can follow for the next three years of high school. i can also work with other scientists an researchers at other places as well. my teacher is a pain in the behind but i need a topic that i can get oppertunities to do stuff like working in labs. i am going into tenth grade next year and i will need to keep and work on this topic for the rest of high school (3 years).

  1. OK, you don't say what kind of lab you will be working in but I'll assume that its a biology lab.

Have you considered a study in embryology, parthenogenesis, micromanipulation of egg and sperm---fertilization; the isolation of egg and sperm, and in vitro fertilization?  Maybe using a fairly simple creature like the earthworm.  They are hermaphroditic but cannot self-fertilize; thus, requiring a mate in order to product viable offspring.

They'd be easy to culture and maybe track from one generation to another.  Perhaps you could determine if these creatures are capable of parthenogenetic reproduction.

Perhaps you could see if there was some way to clone these creatures using their own somatic cells and eggs.

    There's all kinds of possibilities.

  2. Better yet, what topics do you think are cool?

I am sure you have heard that before and thats not what your looking for, but in reality you are the one that will be doing it for the next three years. Better to make it something you are interested in.
