Science students vs art students?

Why are students of the arts encouraged to learn about science and science students encouraged to learn about the arts?

So that they are not just limited/restricted to the knowledge of only one aspect of the world. Exploring a field of study/topic/issue that's outside your comfort zone or your own area of interest/expertise broadens your horizons and your views of the world. It also may help draw parallels or overlaps between two subjects you thought would never have anything in common, i.e., like culinary art (cooking) and chemistry. It also gives you a greater appreciation for a subject you may have never considered of any importance and how principles, theories, or fields in that subject can be applied to everyday scenarios and situations.
