  1. 1. Friction between shoe and floor so you can walk. Friction between workpiece and clamp/vise or tool and hand holding it.

    2. Grooves convey water away from road-tire interface, allowing tire to contact road directly and have better friction.

    3. Spring balance measures force, which is weight.

    4. Lift box some while dragging. Lubricate floor.
