Scientific Atlanta 8300HD - DVR takes 24 hours to work?

I swapped out our SD DVR cable box for an 8300HD one. When I picked it up, I was told the DVR would not work for 24 hours. I've never heard of this, but sure enough, there's no record options within the guide and the List button doesnt do ANYTHING. Anyone heard of this? I'm a little concerned that I'm not seeing ANY DVR options...

  1. What they were referring to is that it will probably take 24 hours for a hit to be transmitted to the box from the computer that controls the billing packages.  The ability to use the IPG (interactive program guide) and the DVR functions are controlled by a package.  If you have the package, these functions work, if you don't, they are not available.  You can call you cable company and ask them to send a "hit" to your box or you can just wait the 24 hours for a hit to be sent down to your box when the billing system polls your box.

  2. you should be seeing something. It takes the TV guide 24 hours to get updated for the coming weeks of programming.

But after an hour, the guide button should be showing something. If not, give them a call.
