With science getting into cloning stem cells and animals and body parts,

can science clone metals such as gold?

  1. Gold is an element, you cannot turn one element into another without a nuclear accelerator.

    There was an experiment where they turned a few atoms of platinum into a gold isotope using a nuclear accelerator.  There are only a few problems with this method:

    1) Nuclear accelerators are expensive.

    2) Platinum is more expensive than gold.

    3) It only does a few atoms at a time.

    4) The gold isotope is unstable, and only lasts a few days.

  2. It is called transmutation when scientists convert one type of atom into another.  It is possible, but requires a vast amount of energy and $, so it's not really worth it.
