Question:

Scientific error in the Koran: True or false?

Quran-23:14: Then fashioned We the drop (s***n) a CLOT OF CONGEALED BLOOD then fashioned We the clot a little lump (fetus), fashioned We the little lump into bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, and then produced it another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of Creators.

(Bengali translations of the Quran read: “Zamaa't Raokto theeke Manoosh banieesi” And this Ayat has been repeated again and again throughout the Quran)

Quran-75:38: Then he becomes a CLOT; then (Allah) shaped and fashioned…

Quran-96:2: Created man, out of a mere clot of congealed blood

There are serious scientific problems here:

A blood clot can not grow into anything. This idea came from the Greeks. Aristotle erroneously believed that humans are originated from the action of male s***n upon female menstrual blood, which is absolutely an incorrect assumption. The Quran's assertion on the clot (alaqa) is completely wrong about human development, since there is absolutely no stage during which the embryo consists of a clot. The only situation in which an embryo might appear like a clot is during a miscarriage, in which case the clotted blood which is seen to emerge (much of which comes from the mother) is solidified and by definition no longer alive. Therefore, if ever an embryo appeared to look like a clot it would never develop any further into a human; it would be a dead mass of bloody miscarriage.

  1. what's wrong with you??

the word alaq has 3 meanings and one of them is a clot. do you have any idea why professor kieth moore accepted islam? he is an embriologist. was amazed to look at these unscientific verses and then he himself proved it to be true. there is nothing unscientific in that. it correct. this made kieth moore a muslim and many others.

just cuz ur bible says nonscence don't expect that from the Quraan! by the way why did you give the bengali trans ??

  2. False

People who reject the Quran will burn in h**l forever? True

Suggest you look at the scientific errors in the Bible though doubt you have enough time left in life to do so

Since Arabic is a semitic language and one word can have numerous meanings what basis to you translate it as solely that word? Itd be better to say "scientific error in the translation of the Koran"

  3. Many of the "scientific" facts in the quran have been proven to be wrong.  Apparently it has also been proven to be correct, but the correct ones only prove that it occurred something like what was said in the quran and not exactly as it was stated.  I don't think you'll find any Muslims who will agree with that even though the proof is right in front of their eyes.  I can understand that in a way because I know how I would feel if there was something in the bible I believe and it was thoroughly proven to be wrong.  I would have to admit that something I believed to be true was not and that would probably affect my faith, but  not enough for me to stop believing in my faith.

  4. False. Qur'an is Perfect , It doesn't have a single Error.

  5. The clot of blood in the Quran is referring to the drop of sperm from the male that looks like a bloodsucker (leech), then it fertilizes with the egg....simple, logical, understandable!

  6. the translations are not just wrong, they are changing god's word to the opposite, and i'm talking about sunni muslems, for example there is in the second chapter, the word (yathonnon) any of these translators would translate it to guess in any other book other than quran, but no, in quran it means certain! they say it's one of the words in arabic that could mean something and it's opposite at the same time! and they refer to ancient scholars, as if an ancient idiot is better than a modern one! what stupid language that a word in it could mean something and its opposite! arabic is the most beautiful civilized language in the world, but scholars are idiots.

back to your (alaqa) this word is driven from the source (ALQ) which would simply indicate something hanged not a clot of blood!

god! some times i feel i'm the only moslem in the world! it's so lonely and sad!

the leech in arabic is called (alaqa) because it hangs it self to something and sucks its blood. that might be the source of the miss understanding

  7. don't u know that arabic is a large language more than english 8 times

arabic has 2 millions synonymouses ,while english has just 500.000 ,so don't make verdicts b4 u learn Arabic dude

  8. May Peace Mercy and blessings of Allah(swt) be on all of you.

Brother Geoff If you cannot understand the Quran then it does not mean that Quran is wrong,With due respect its you who is wrong and not the Glorious Quran.

Only one line answer is sufficient to refute all your allegations against the Quran when it comes to Embryology.

The embryological stages described in the Glorious Quran are based upon ''appearence'' and not the ''function''. For a detailed answer read below.

The three Verses you have mentioned speak about the various embryological stages in great detail.

The word''Alaqa'' used in the verses has got three meaning.and all three meaning are in perfect confirmity with the mordern embryology(including congealed clot of blood).

    1) Congealed clot of blood:2) a leach like substance 3) some thing that clings.

    1) Congealed clot of blood.

This is the meaning you have objected to right? well let us analise your claim :)

As i have mentioned above the Quranic discription is based on appearence and not function. Today after the advancement in mordern embryology embryologists (including doctor Keith Moor) agree that in the initial stages,of the stage of Alaqa,3 to 4 weeks, the blood is clotted in closed vessels'.and during the third week of embryo the blood circulation does not take place.it starts latter on therefore it assumes the appearence of the ''CLOT''.and as you have mentioned,if you observe the conspectus ,after teh abortion takes place, you can see it looks like a clot.

The stages that how it is described in mordern embryology ,like stage 1.2.3.4... is so confusing .The Quranic stages on embryology based on the appearence is far more superior.

    2)Leech like substance:

The most famous award winning book on embryology''THE DEVELOPING HUMAN''  3rd eddition shows how embryo looks like a leech when observed under a powerful microscope.Besides looking like a leech it also behaves like a leech by taking its blood supply from its mother like a ''blood sucker''.

    3) Some thing that clings:

Today mordern embryology tells us that in the initial stages the embryo clings with the uterine wall and continues to cling till the end.

''Alaqa'' is just one stage of embryology. there are many stages mentioned in detail(watch the video link below for details)

Hippocrates and Gallon along with Aristotle did give alot of things to empryology but some were right and some were rong.''The developing Human'' gives due credit to these Greeks and others but also mentions that many things they gave to embryology were rong . That it does nto mention for the Quran .Infact Dr Keith Moore even states that Quran gives additional knowledge.(for details watch the link below''Is The Quran God's Word?).If Quran was to be coppied from Greeks ,WHY WAS ONLY THE RIGHT INFORMATIONED COPPIED AND RONG INFORMATION WAS LEFT ASIDE '' when we all know that Muhammad(pbuh) was an illeterate man .and the information is varified just recently(50 to 100 years ago).for example they believed that Human beings are created like ''curdled cheese''.Who says that? Even Bible says that in Job Ch 10 Verse 9.They believed that even women produced siemens. Why didnt Quran copy all this false information?

I hope all your misconceptions have been removed now and you have the right understanding of the Quranic text and you will recognise that the Quran is far more superior from having any errors  because its from God Almighty .

There are hundreds of facts mentioned in the Quran which could not have known 1400 years ago by a human being.

e.g The Earth is Egg Shaped ., Moon does nto have its own light, all living creatures are made up of water , skin has pain receptors etc.

  9. False , DOnt trust english translations.

Cuz sometimes its done by non-muslims

  10. My question to you,

Why do you wish to disprove anything?

What difference does it make to you what someone else believes?

Why can't the clot be a mud clot, surely that's impossible as well.

Do not use science to disprove a non scientific translation.

Especially when the very book is about things that science cannot disprove or prove.

  11. koran os right always, book of god allah.

  12. Sure to be some mistakes. Muhammad could not get everything right.

Sara: thats is a rubbish excuse considering most translations of the Quran are done by Muslims. And even if they are a high amount who are non-Muslims why would they purposely mis translate something? Wouldn't look good at their Arabic language skills would it?

  13. I'm afraid there is a misunderstanding here.

“Then We made the drop into a leech-like structure.”

This statement is from Sura 23:14. The word “alaqah” refers to a leech or bloodsucker. This is an appropriate description of the human embryo from days 7-24 when it clings to the endometrium of the uterus, in the same way that a leech clings to the skin. Just as the leech derives blood from the host, the human embryo derives blood from the decidua or pregnant endometrium. It is remarkable how much the embryo of 23-24 days resembles a leech (Fig. 2). As there were no microscopes or lenses available in the 7th century, doctors would not have known that the human embryo had this leech-like appearance. In the early part of the fourth week, the embryo is just visible to the unaided eye because it is smaller than a kernel of wheat.

You may or may not have heard of Professor Keith Moore (being a non-Muslim) and his great astonishment of the scientific facts in the Qur'an about embryology. He even included verses of the Qur'an in his later works after further studying the embryological references made in it.

More about miracle of embryology in Qur'an here:

    ADDITION:

I think I made it clear that Keith Moore wasn't a Muslim and I don't hesitate to say that I think he hasn't become a Muslim.

The Arabic word says ('alaqa) which is also the name of the worm in Arabic. Translators are not scientists in every subject.

You quote something from Keith Moore which has nothing to do with our subject here. Moreover, you only quote that and neglect the other 99.99% which you don't like.
