  1. Scientific notation is the smallest or simplest way to express any given number. It is idea for scientists of all sorts.

    3.6 * 10^14 is the most simple way of expressing that number.

  2. 36000X10^10?

    in standard form.  is  move decimal 10 places to the right

    360,000,000,000,000

    and 0.0000403X10^12  12 to the right

    40,300,000

    also 0.0000000082=  8.2 x 10^-9

    0.000000000205 = 2.05 x 10^-10

    in scientific notation?

  3. 36000X10^10 = 360000000000000

    0.0000403X10^12 = 40300000.00

    0.0000000082 = 8.2x10^-9

    0.000000000205 = 2.05x10^-10

  4. You just move the decimal.  Like the first one would be 360000000000000...add 10 0's

  5. 3.6 X 10^14

    4.03 X 10^7

    8.2 X 10^-9

    2.05 X 10^-10

    Standard form only has one number before the period, so you have to move the decimal point whatever number of places to the right or left until you have one number to the left of the decimal point.  When you move the decimal place left, you add one to the exponent of 10 for each place you move the decimal point to the left.  When you move the decimal place to the right, you subtract one from the exponent of 10 for each place you move the decimal point to the right.

  6. 360,000,000,000,000 (just add ten 0's)

    40,300,000 (move the decimal to the right 12 times)

    8.2 x 10 ^ -9

    2.05 x 10 ^ 10
