  1. I would agree with the above in regards to Methane's comments. I found an article in the Star Tribune with a quote from either the pope or a cardinal (can't remember which right now) that even he believes in the Big Bang Theory. The Theory is not easily dismissed and does not cast out the idea of God though plenty of other findings from scientists do.

The problem with finding "proof" of Gods/Goddesses is that most of the tales are hundreds if not thousands of years old and there is little that can be truly done about proving or disproving their existence or the truth of the tales of the religion.

Also it may be impossible to find what we think of as proof that they exist or ever did. That is why religions are so based around the concept of "Faith". There are many people you can talk to in any religion who say they have truly seen God and in their minds they probably have. But until they allow pictures from the mind to be used as evidence there is no way to show everyone else what they have seen.

Finally whether or not they exist depends on you personally. As a scientist first and foremost I would like to say I am not truly an Atheist but am a Deist. I believe that at some point there was a powerful being who to us would seem omniscient who helped set the universe in motion and set it to run by a set of specific laws. Thus the only place where I truly conflict with most religions is the idea of a personal God. Maybe you should look around at some of the other religions and see what I mean. There are as many religions as there are Peoples in this world so take some time to explore.

  2. Belief is something that is personal, not scientific. If you want just scientific answers then be an atheist, it’s that simple. And no I’m not an Atheist myself anymore, though I was for 18 years.

    @Methane

You need to learn more about what a scientific theory is, as well as look at the facts and reasoning behind it. I’m not saying the big bang is 100% fact, just that it is not anywhere near as easy to brush aside as you seem to be claiming.

  3. I will start by quoting Alan B - "Scientists can trace our past right to a millisecond after the Big Bang. It is that millisecond that is the problem, and the theologians take over then."

A lot of people assume that the Big Bang theory is correct and scientifically proven. This is not so, note the word theory. There are other scientific theories that explain the start of the universe too but it is a difficult one to prove. I'm not saying they are all wrong, but just because a theory is put forward by a scientist doesn't make it fact.

Howver a lot of religious explanations are nothing more than an allegorical creation story. Scientists probably can guess everything after the start of the universe, but they don't know, they can only interpret so far.

Scientists have indeed  made (not done) so many discoveries, but what makes you think that Priests have not? Just try to be open minded about this. I have heard people talk of seeing Gods and Goddesses, so it is a little disingenuous for anyone to say they haven't discovered them (if discover is the correct wording for this).

Is your question about proof by any chance? If so then you do need to look at proof with science too. A lot of that is in doubt too. I'm not arguing for anybody to believe anything they are told without question. I question my thoughts all the time, it is healthy.

Don't forget there are hundreds of examples of science whereby a theory is believed (note the word believed) and taught to the population even though it is later disbunked.

Big Bang theory is one example, where I was taught at school that this was the way it all started, now I learn that it probably isn't.

I was taught in evolution that we evolved from various types of homonid in linear progression until in was homosapien. Now we know that Homo sapiens were around at the same time as neanderthal man, so there were more than one linear progressions of similar type.

It does also depend on types of proof. I'm willing to accept that the human mind is a wonderful thing capable of hallucinations, but I am not willing to accept that anything that doesn't fit in with present "scientific" theories that it isn't true.

  4. Scientists discover what is real. Religion is purely down to belief. You have to remember that it comes from umpteen thousand years ago when primitive man thought that someone up their made it rain and thunder and gave us warmth from the sun. We now know different and yet gullible pillocks... sorry... some people, still think there is summat up there controlling everything.

  5. God was never lost whereas scientists seem to prefer proving their ignorance to those who were already aware of theirs

  6. I've yet to meet a Priest who does not believe in God.  There are no 'goddesses' except on the Golden Screen or a centerfold spread.

Your question about scientists not collaborating what Faith proves is based on the assumption that God is a man and therefore subject to Man's rules and regulations.  God cannot be measured with a yardstick.  And God is not a man that He must allow Himself to be analysis-ed in a lab or in a test tube.  God does not have to play by our rules and regulations.  He is God, the Author of all things and if it pleases Him to remain concealed from Man's sight that is just fine because... To the faithful no explanation is necessary.  To the faithless no explanation will do.

  7. Scientists can trace our past right to a millisecond after the Big Bang. It is that millisecond that is the problem, and the theologians take over then.

  8. I think most priests/priestesses would say they have discovered their go/goddess, what you are after is tangible evidence, I guess that's where faith comes in.
