Scintillating swims of Mandy Loots and Jason Dunford in 2011 All African Games, Mozambique
The 2011 All African Games saw impressive swims at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, from September 5-10. Mandy Loots of South Africa took home the Women’s 200m butterfly title, while Loots won the Women’s 100m butterfly crown of the platform
as well. On the other hand, Jason Dunford secured the gold medal in the Men’s 50m butterfly final heat, whereas, Dunford also won the gold title in the Men’s 100m butterfly race.
At the beginning, Mandy Loots hit the wall in 2 minutes and 12.46 seconds to win the Women’s 200m butterfly title of the platform. In the corresponding race, Bianca Meyer of South Africa captured the silver medal on the podium by posting a winning time of
2 minutes and 16.66 seconds. Meanwhile, Sarah Hadj of Algeria secured the bronze medal on the podium by submitting a unique time of 2 minutes and 20.61 seconds.
In the Women’s 100m butterfly final heat, Mandy Loots powered the wall in 59.86 seconds to win the gold title of the platform. Most importantly, Loots thrashed down her previous best time of 1 minute and 00.09 seconds, set back in 2007. Zimbabwe's Kirsty
Coventry snared the silver medal on the podium by submitting a striking time of 1 minute and 02.20 seconds.
South Africa's Bianca Meyer took home the bronze medal of the platform by posting a remarkable time of 1 minute and 03.14 seconds. Meanwhile, Fella Benaceur of Algeria finished fourth with a matchless mark of 1 minute and 04.10 seconds and her compatriot,
Sarah Hadj Aberrahmane settled fifth with an impressive mark of 1 minute and 06.25 seconds.
On the other side, Jason Dunford of Kenya hit the wall in 23.57 seconds to win the golden crown of the platform. More importantly, Dunford beat his previous best meet time of 23.91 seconds, set back in 2007. In the corresponding race, Neil Watson secured
the silver medal on the podium by submitting a unique time of 24.31 seconds. Garth Tune took home the bronze medal on the podium by posting a striking time of 24.70 seconds.
Yellow Yeiyah of Nigeria finished fourth with an inspiring mark of 25.01 seconds. Rama Vyombo settled fifth in a time of 25.44 seconds, while Jughurtha Bourmalie wound up sixth in a time of 25.46 seconds. Oluseyi Fatayi Williams earned seventh position in
a time of 25.71 seconds, whereas, Joao Matias settled eighth in a time of 25.80 seconds.
Moreover, Dunford won the Men’s 100m butterfly crown with a striking mark of 52.13 seconds. In the corresponding swim, Chad Le Clos of South Africa secured the silver medal of the platform by submitting an impressive time of 52.17 seconds. Meanwhile, Neil
Watson of South Africa earned bronze in a time of 55.14 seconds.
Oussama Shanoune of Algeria was placed fourth with a mark of 56.32 seconds, while Yellow Yeiyah of Nigeria earned fifth spot with a time of 56.71 seconds. Quinton Delie of Namibia finished sixth with a mark of 57.40 seconds, whereas, Joao Matias of Angola
settled seventh in a time of 57.53 seconds. Sofyan Elgadi earned eighth position in a time of 58.27 seconds.
