  2. well, depends on what you mean by long term. if you mean for the next 10 years, there is a very good chance that it will still work - especially since toyota is known for the reliability of their vehicles and parts, so i wouldn't be worried. but if you mean long term as in, 15+ years, i'm not sure. but i know that on my 1988 landcruiser, the power windows still work and its almost 20 years old, so i would think you would be okay.

however, it might cost a lot to replace if after a looooong (15+ years) since it is a dual panoramic sunroof, and as far as i know (could be wrong) the dual panoramic sunroof is available only by scion and its common knowledge that any parts available exclusively by the dealer are very overpriced.

  3. My 05 had the deflector recalled.  Toyota didn't think it was necessary to use laminated glass like a windshield and instead used safety glass like the side windows.  Turns out rocks hit the front of the car and it will shatter (big surprise).

Once they fixed it there should be no problems.  I don't think they had any problems with the entire roof shattering unless the deflector broke 1st.

GM, Ford, and Mercedes Benz also have glass roofs with a similar design.  If 4 different automakers think its strong enough to last I wouldn't worry.

  4. Depending on when you got it (Mine is an '04) There was a recall on the shield that goes up when you open the roof. If you replace this, or if your car was made after '04, there shouldn't be any maintenance required, only the lubricating of the rails when you bring it in for tune-ups.

Oh and wash it so it shines!!

  5. moon roof does not open, so there is nothing to worry about it for the long term, it probably will cost a lot to replace in case in breaks, it will only break in case of an accident or a case of vandalism.
