Has anyone ever rented a scooter in Rome? I used to ride motorcycles and would like to try this, but I've heard some say the traffic is intimidating. Anyone else tried it?

  1. Only if you are crazy.  Plus if you want to see stuff you have to park it.  Also, Rome isn't laid out like New York...

  2. Hi, It's the best way to visit Rome rent a scooter. If do you have time have a look on www.060608.com is the official we site of Comune di Roma, city council, or www.chartaroma.com, if do you need an hotel accommodation best rates in Rome http://www.prontohotel.com/

For itinerary, depends where will be your accommodation, but for sure, Vatican city (of course you can't drive in), Navona square, Trastevere, Campo dei Fiori, Aventino top hills, you can see a wonderful overview of Rome and also opposite from Giannicolo. Have fun!

  3. On my last visit to Rome, my car overheated and I blew the cylinder head gasket. I had to extend my stay in rome, while my car was being repaired.

I decided to hire a scooter, I found a place in the center of Rome, if I remember correctly it was called 'Rome Scooters'.

It was located in a car park, they let you try out the scooter in the car park. I had never riden a scooter before, I was doing ok and I had managed a few cricles round the car park, I then tried to do an emergency stop, unfortunately I crashed the scooter. There was a little damage to the front wheel, fortunately this was covered by the insurance you are required to take out. Strange thing was as I left the car park on foot, I just turned the corner on to the road, and a car ploughed in to a guy on scooter, injuring him quite badly.

Yes, the traffic is very initimidating in Rome, but the experienced scooter drivers, of which there are many, seem to be able in weave in and out of cars with ease.

i'm from rome and i still living here there are a lot of scooter rentals in Via Cavour (100meters from colosseum)there are 1 beside the other is full.the traffic is not so intimidating.if you take a taxi it's very very expensive,if u want to rent  a car is not the best thing because whith the scooter you can enter in the center without any problem, with a car u can't.

i hope that i been helpfull ....bye

  5. OMG, I had a small scooter when I was studing in Roma.... Dont be afraid...drive with senses.... it is totally safe... dont let other car drivers intimidate you... (if you are from the states forget their driving rules, here is a different game)

If you need to rent a scooter try Via Cavour or the souroundings from Termini.... also around Via Nazionale....

    Buona fortuna....
