Question:

Scooter or Motorcycle?

I'm thinking about getting ride of the car for most of the year, and I'm hoping a scooter will fit the bill. Anybody out there make the switch from car to scooter? Anybody think a motorcycle is the better way to go. We have 2 cars in the family - so no problem giving up one of them. Just looking for a better way to commute over back roads and occasional highway, (maybe), to get to work.

  1. Yes there are scooters that will do what you want , you do not have to  get a actual motorcycle.  Scooters go up to 500+ cc's. Look at KYMCO and Genuine or Hyosung they all make scooters and good ones to these are not Chinese imported junk. Mileage is from 100 to 60 per gallon depending on size.

  2. get the motorcycle.  you will find that you just enjoy riding it more.  the insurance ain't that bad.  motorcycles are more visible to others on the road than scooters and you will be able to maintain the speed limit easier.  a cruiser would probably be a good commuter bike. 600-800 cc

  3. I got rid of my car for a scooter. I can ride year round and I really like it. I decided to go with a scooter over a motorcycle since it was going to be my only transportation I wanted it to be practical as well as fun.

Scooters usually have far more built in storage. Mine holds 2 full face helmets or groceries for my family of 4 under the seat. I can also bungee all sorts of things on the seat behind me.

I ride in traffic. I got rid of my manual trans car. It is nice not be constantly shifting through rush hour. If I was a weekend rider shifting would be fun, but I didn't want to do it for my commute.

I find that  they are cooler (riding temperature wise). It is hot where I live and I don't want to sit hugging an engine. The scooters engine is below and slightly behind me, the heat seems to dissipate better.

So anyway, I've ridden both and chose to go with a scooter.

  4. it would be better to get a scooter, motorcycles are not only deadly there extremely expensive . the insurance is very high.

  5. a scooter is cheaper but the motorcycle is better for highways and all. if you aren't really going to go on the highway save the money and buy the scooter.
