Scooter question. What is a TDI (Transistorised Coil Ignition) and ....?

how is it diferent than a DC CDI. Which one is better for a scooter? I'm comparison shopping but have no idea if one is better than the other or who they work differently.

  1. Basically the same thing.  Both use transistors (electrical switches) to turn the current to the ignition coil on and off.  The "capacitor" on the Capacitor Discharge Ignition is nothing more than a little storage battery that temporarily stores some electricity before "discharging" it when the transistor closes (turns on) the switch.
