Scooters and Motorcycles in the USA.

Question

If people in the USA used scooters and motorcycles as their primary form of transportation, what effect would that have on American Lifestyles? Would that be a solution to the energy prices?

I love motorcycles and they get great mileage, but I don't think they would be practical for most as everyday transportation. You could only carry a max of two people on one at any given time, there is no weather protection, and there would be many safety concerns. Motorbikes have no safety devices to protect passengers and operaters. If you s***w up in a car you have some protection, not so on a bike. I think that the hospitals would be full of injured riders if everybody rode bikes like they drive cars, you just don't have as much margin for error. Bikes are great for some things but aren't practicle for  family use.
