Scorchers, Sixers qualify for the inaugural KFC Big Bash final – Part 2
The 2nd semi-final was another tantalizing affair, which went in favour of the Sixers, whose bowlers held their nerves to scrape home a narrow victory by 7 runs against Hobart Hurricanes.
Another notable crowd turned out at the Bellerive Oval but the Hurricanes failed to cement their place despite bowling out their opponents on a below par 153.
Skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nic-Maddinson-c79322 added 59 for the second wicket.
Maddinson remained the top scorer with 68, but with the rest of the batters failing to contribute, the Hurricanes had given themselves an excellent chance of making it through to the final.
However, the second half of the game saw the Sixers’ experienced bowling line coming to the foil with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NL-McCullum-c2120, all proving too hot to handle.
The Hurricanes run chase was dealt a blow when they lost inform duo of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134 (0) in quick succession to leave themselves in a bit of bother at 51 for 3 in 9.3 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matt-Johnston-c1920 to leave the Hurricane chase in tatters.
However, Pakistani all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Anthony-Moran-c63762 kept things tight to book his team’s passage into the penultimate game of the tournament.
In the end, Hurricanes could only make 146 in their 20 overs leaving Rana stranded on 30 not out.
The two finalists will now meet at the WACA ground on January 28th to contest in the lucrative final – with expectations of playing in front of another packed crowd. The tournament, which started on an optimistic note, indeed managed to garnish plenty of support from the passionate cricket followers Down Under.
However, its prolonged existence still remains under doubt.
