Scoreboard round-up day two, WGC-HSBC Champions
It was another amazing day of golf at the Olazabal Course at the Mission Hills. The WGC-HSBC Champions is halfway done and Louis Oosthuizen has taken a healthy lead.
The South African shot 9-under 63 on a day when many struggled. His 16-under for 36-holes is a new WGC record. However, the highlight of the day came when he eagled the 7th hole.
"I'm in a great position to win, but it's not even crossed my mind at the moment," Oosthuizen said. "There's still a lot of golf to be played - I need to put myself in a great position going down the back nine on Sunday".
Ernie Els was the top mover on the leaderboard after round two. He too shot 9-under for the day to finish T2 with Adam Scott, five strokes behind the fellow South African Oosthuizen.
Adam Scott had a decent start today but he faltered in the end with three bogeys on the last seven holes.
The Australian has a knack of faltering on the last stages of the round. Back at the British Open, he blew a four shot lead right on the last four holes of the tournament.
Phil Mickelson might probably miss his chance to land in his third WGC-HSBC Champions after he ended up at T6. “Lefty” shot a mediocre round of 3-under 69. He needed to shoot better than this to catch the leaderboard.
Jason Dufner and Shane Lowry continued to impress at the Mission Hills. The duo is tied at T4 after they shot 6-under and 4-under respectively. They need to shoot an extremely low round on Saturday if they are to catch Oosthuizen.
Defending champion, Martin Kaymer seems to be having a difficult time at the Olazabal Course. The German is not just letting himself loose for some reason. For the second consecutive day, he shot an average round, which was not good enough.
Bubba Watson faltered badly on Friday, as he could only manage an even par round of 72. A triple bogey on the par-5 fifteenth did the main damage. He should look to shoot some solid rounds to regain his momentum.
The Ryder Cup Rookie Brandt Snedeker could not fire a low round once again. The FedEx Cup winner could only manage 1-under for the day.
