Scoring leaders of first round of 2011 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship
The 2011 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship has completed with the preliminary stages of the tournament as the competition was kicked off on Monday, August 1 with sixteen teams. Squads were divided into four pools and each team appeared in three matches
on consecutive days. The first round completed its run from August 1 to 3. At the end of first round, the following five players were named as top-scorers:
Dekita Takashi – 93 (Japan) Atanasijevic Aleksandar – 77 (Serbia) Souza Ricardo Lucarelli – 61 (Brazil) Sander Taylor – 58 (USA) Kovacevic Uros SRB - 55 (Serbia) Penchev Nikolay – 55 (Bulgaria)
Dekita Takashi – 1st
Takashi Debita of Japan has scored the maximum number of points in the tournament so far. He showed thathe is scoring machine and received huge applause from the international audience. Japan was included in Pool A and finished the first round in third position.
Overall, the team couldn’t achieve the desired target and failed to find a spot in the top-8 teams of the tournament. Nonetheless, the team was equipped with the wonderful striker, who helped his team reach third in their pool. He scored 93 points on 85 spikes,
six blocks and two serves. Japan won two matches in three days and Debita played an important role in his team’s success.
The Head Coach of Japan, Noriaki Sako, has a lot of faith in Debita’s talent and abilities. He shared his thoughts about the Debita in the following manner: “He has a lot of skills to score but keep in mind that he’s still a work in progress. No doubt he
is a big time scorer but he still has a lot to learn.”
Atanasijevic Aleksandar
Serbian Atanasijevic Aleksandar comes second on the list of top scorers of first round of the 2011 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship. The player clad in number-14 shirt did a great job for Serbia and enabled his team to qualify for the next round. Serbia
finished the first round with the final score of 3-0. Serbian success was mainly due to the 77 points, which were contributed by Aleksandar. He was remarkably consistent in all three matches and was credited for 65 successful attack-attempts, 5 blocks and
seven serves.
Souza Ricardo Lucarelli
Brazilian, Souza Ricardo Lucarelli, settled for the rank of third best scorer of the first round. Brazil started out badly and received early burns of defeat from Japan in the opening match. Brazil made a great come back and managed to reserve a berth in
the second round. Ricardo chipped in 61 points and saved his team from facing an unpleasant scenario.
Sander Taylor
American Taylor bagged 58 points in the first round and settled in fourth slot on top-scorers’ ranking. U.S. Team has also clawed its way to the second round of the championship.
5th position holders
Serbian Kovacevic Uros shared the number 5 slot with Penchev Nikolay of Bulgaria. They contributed 55 points apiece to their respective teams.
