Scot Robison and Kim Vandenberg dominate swimming events: Day four – US Swimming Olympic Trials
Scot Robison and Kim Vandenberg dominated the qualification rounds of Men’s 100m freestyle and Women’s 200m butterfly respectively on fourth day of the 2012 US Swimming Olympic Trials in Omaha on Thursday, June 28.
The morning session included the preliminary rounds of the 100m freestyle, 200m butterfly, and 200m breaststroke in Men and Women’s category.
The first event of the session was Men’s 100m freestyle, where Robison faced tough competition from Nathan Adrian throughout the event but managed to outperform him over the finishing end.
With his tremendous efforts, he proved his supremacy over his challengers and entered the final round with the timing of 49.08 seconds.
His fastest qualification effort was chased by Adrian, who stayed 0.09 seconds slower from him and secured second best qualification spot of the event with the timing of 49.17 seconds.
Third position of the 100m event was obtained by Matt Grevers, who was 0.07 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with the timing of 49.24 seconds.
Similarly, Grevers was followed by Jimmy Feigen, who stayed marginally slower from him over the finishing end and earned fourth qualifying position of the discipline with the timing of 49.29 seconds.
Next was the Women’s 200m butterfly, where Vandenberg showered her expertise and reached the next round as top fastest swimmer. With her alluring efforts and utter determination, she edged out her closest competitors over the finishing blockade.
She stayed just a touch away from her following swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.78 seconds for first position.
Vandenberg was trailed by Cammile Adams, who remained only 0.06 seconds slower from her and proved her audacity for second position of the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.84 seconds.
Adams was chased by Kelsey Floyd, who stayed just a stroke apart and qualified into the final round as third fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 09.02 seconds.
Fourth position of the event was secured by Theresa Crippen, who stayed nearly half body length behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 09.48 seconds.
Third qualification round of the session was Men’s 200m breaststroke, where Clark Burckle devastated hopes of his opponents and proved his eligibility for the top position.
He stayed prominently ahead of his closest opponent and produced a time of 2 minutes and 10.30 seconds. He was followed by Scott Weltz, who stayed 0.60 seconds apart and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 10.90 seconds for second position.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Eric Shanteau, who remained 0.67 seconds behind and reported a time of 2 minutes and 11.57 seconds.
Furthermore, the swimmers will face each other in the next round, where the top two position holders will qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
