  1. We even have tourns in Tx  My mixed doubles partner was Sherrie Hudson N American womens 8 ball champ I first played it about 7-8 years ago

It will teach you real quick to read your partner very good game

  2. I've known about Scotch doubles for years; my husband used to gamble that way occasionally, but I hear about it all the time now that we play in league (we just started about a year ago). In APA, there are regular Scotch doubles and "Jack and Jill" Scotch doubles (male/female teams), but there's always a combined handicap limit and it's almost always 8-ball (usually 12 or 10 for 8-ball or 9-ball, 10 for Jack and Jill 8-ball). I've only played in one tournament (not with my husband-- over the limit) but I really enjoy practicing that way occasionally. I like being responsible for giving my partner a good shot; it really helps me to concentrate on each shot. I mean, if I leave myself bad, it's no big deal...I don't have to apologize to myself and if I miss a tough shot, well, I have only myself to blame...but I don't like doing that to other people :)

  3. I'm not sure if you would call it scotch doubles but we have an 8 ball alternate shot league. You must have at least 1 female player on your roster. The roster can be from 3 to 6 players and the lady must shoot in the first or second match. I don't play in it anymore because I would have to shoot at a 6 level. There are 3 matches on a league night and the total handicap level of all 3 matches combined cannot exceed 13 for 1 team. For example if your team consists of a 4 and a 2 then you split the difference and play at a 3 level. If two 5's play as a team then they play at a 5 level. If say a 6 and a 3 play as a team ( no common ground)  then they play at a 5 level. I would have to play at a 6 level because I am a 7 in the open league. The same lady runs both the open league and the alternate shot league and that is one of her rules. You must play alternate shot at 1 level below your open league level. I never understood what the open league handicap had to do with the alternate shot league but thats her rule. I always got frustrated anyway. I would leave my partner a simple straight in shot and they would almost always try something else. Drove me crazy!

  4. I can tell you that Scotch doubles 8-ball is very popular in league play.  I can also tell you that it's rarely a good idea to have your significant other as a partner.  Unless they are relatively equal in skill level, you're bound to butt heads and cause undue stress to the relationship.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  5. I played it one time!, I almost strangled her!, so no more!
