Scotland's Nathan Hines hangs up his boots from international rugby - Rugby News
Scotland lock, Nathan Hines, has decided to hang up his boots from international rugby due to personal preoccupations. Hines declared his retirement from his national side on November 9 and told the media that it was a hard decision to take but he was left
with no other option. According to reports, Hines wants to give the maximum time to his wife and has taken the decision accordingly. The 34-year-old lock has represented his country in 77 tests.
Nathan Hines made his debut with the Scottish side back in 2000 while playing against New Zealand. During his long career with Scotland he has spent a fair share of time away from the field due to various injuries. He was sidelined from the team very early
in his career with a couple of critical blows and took at least 18 months to recover.
Later on, he fell into a controversy as he punched a United States player in a test match. He was the first Scottish player to be sent off the field for foul play involving physical violence. However, he made a strong comeback into the side in the global
show of 2003 and asserted his position among the key players of his team in the tournament.
Hines has also played a great number of domestic rugby for many renowned clubs since 1997, including Perpignan, Leinster and Clermont. Recently, he has been playing for Clermont, which he will carry on.
In his farewell speech while announcing his retirement, Hines said that, “Leann [his wife] and I want to have another kid and that will probably involve going through IVF again and with the Six Nations coming up then a tour next summer that would be really
difficult. Our son, Josh, starts school in January and that would make it hard to travel like I've done in the past.”
He added that, “I wanted to finish my career on my terms and didn't want to be the player that played one year too many.”
Scotland coach Andy Robinson has appreciated the outgoing player for his tremendous services for his country.
