Hello

My family wants to move to from australia to scotland in the next year or two.

My dad is 46 and was born in Scotland But has Lived in Australia for 40 years.. if we were to move to scotland, how many years would he have to work there until he was entitled to a scottish pension.

And also how would we go about taking our dog over there?

Thanks heaps

  1. you need to ask this in the scotland section

  2. Centrelink would be able to tell you whether there are reciprocal arrangements for cases such as this. UK pensioners can live here and get a part or full pension ofro UK, but I'd be dubious about the current exchange rate if I were you. With greater heating costs etc, and the price of FOOD! you might find that what seems like a good enough deal isn't.

  3. i hate scotland.

  4. As soon as he starts working he will be entitled to a pension.  I'm only 5 years younger than your dad BTW.  Incidentally, it may be a good idea if he gets some sort of private pension too (if his job here doesn't have a company pension scheme) as the State Pension is only worth pennies.  Bringing your dog here ought to be OK.  You'll need a pet passport for it though & certificates saying it's rabies free etc.  Also consider the flight.  The longest flight i've taken was 12 1/2 hours to Brasil (my relatives there) which is like half the flight time from Oz to here.  Would that be fair on a dog?  Did your Dad keep his UK citizenship even after moving to Oz?  If he did then it ought to be a lot easier for him to get things done over here.

Enjoy yourself when you come over.  You don't say what part of Oz you are from, but if you are from the North you will find it a lot chillier here.
