Scotland Rugby Union CEO position still unoccupied after departure of Gordon McKie - Rugby News
The Chief Executive Officers seat of the Scotland Rugby Union (SRU) is laying vacant after Gordon McKie resigned from his office yesterday, on June 15. The union is still searching for an appropriate person who could run the board effectively. The SRU has
not released the reasons of Gordon McKie’s departure, who served the union for six years. However, some rugby critics are happy with the departure of McKie.
The union has started the search for their new Chief Executive as the Rugby World Cup 2011 is in the touching distance. The former head of Scotland Rugby Union parted from the board at a time when two major events were around the corner. When the announcement
was made, McKie was in Italy to attend a meeting about the present scenario of the Junior RWC.
The coach of the Scottish side, Michael Bradley, has hoped that a quick appointment was made in order to formulate the action plans for the future. Bradley further said that the union may appoint anyone as the CEO and it will not affect his plans. Bradley
is also new at his job, as he was given the charge of Scotland team as a head coach during the previous month.
Morrison, who has also performed the duties of CEO before McKie, talked about his outgoing colleague. He said that he was handling the issues well and should carry on with the responsibilities. He added that, "I think we have to be very aware of not returning
to the bad old days when the club representatives were running the day-to-day business of the union. No question, the number of times in the last few weeks and months we heard the phrase 'McKie is the problem.”
He also said that board should now put a person in the office who could rebuild the whole system. He stated, “What we need is someone to grow the game, to market it properly. Someone to bring enthusiasm to the sport. At the same time we need that person
to have financial discipline.”
Scotland Rugby Union is confident to solve the problem in the next few days
