Scotland assistant coach Graham Steadman seeks home crowd support at Murrayfield
Scotland assistant coach Graham Steadman is seeking home crowd support at Murrayfield against Italy on Saturday. Steadman urged the masses to come out on the day and support their team in the ongoing Six-Nations clash. He said that the crowd helped pump
the enthusiasm of the players.
His appealed to the masses because most seats are feared to remain vacant in their home match. According to fresh news, around 22,000 tickets are yet to be sold with only three days to go for the match. Murrayfield has a capacity of 67,000 seats and only
45,000 have been sold. Steadman said it would have a bad influence if the crowd did not show up. Scotland will face Italy in their fifth match of the current Six-Nations championship 2011 and they have not won any match up to now. Perhaps this is the reason
behind the lack of interest of the crowd.
Steadman said, "For Scotland, for whatever reason, and it might be a minority, some don't understand what it means to players for the crowd to get behind them and be vocal. The crowd must understand that they can be the difference in getting behind the team
who are busting their guts to get a result.”
He accepted that their four consecutive defeats maybe the reason that a large number of supporters had not been attracted. He said that the team had had a bad time and needed the moral support that could pump them and boost their performance. He quoted the
example of the Italian crowd that supported their team even when they were losing the game 18-0. However, with the help of the morale-boosting crowd support, the situation turned out completely differently and Italy emerged victorious.
The assistant coach said his team needed to start well and they should forget about their past performances in the championship. He added, “I don't remember backing of an away team like that in any of my previous times there,” he said. “Of course we have
to start strong, and there were times in the other games that the support must have thought, this isn’t the script, what's happening here.”
