Scotland defeats France by 6-4 to secure 2nd place in Celtic Cup
Chris Grassick scored twice, as Scotland powered a convincing 6-4 victory over France in the last game of the Celtic Cup that took place in Cardiff, Wales on June 19, 2011. With the triumph in the essential game, the Scots earned a second
place in the tournament, as Ireland defeated Wales by four goals and lifted the title for consecutively for the third time.
The Scottish men have a better conversion rate than the Wales team and earned the second place in the tournament.
The match between Scotland and France commenced at a high pace. However, no team could score a goal in the first twenty minutes of play. It was the team of Scotland that obtained the first goal when Michael Christie managed to take the ball at the top of
the circle and struck a commanding shot into the empty cage.
Before going into the second, Simon Martin scored a goal and tied the knots at 1-1.
Following a tiny break, the two teams entered the field. The French players ruined the defence line of Scotland with to-and-fro attacks in the opening minutes of the second half. Victor Condemine managed to get into the defensive circle of Scotland and tapped
the shot into the goal. After a few minutes, his team-mate, Martin, added a goal from the field effort and expanded the lead up to two goals, 3-1.
A couple of goals triggered off the striking line of Scotland which was trailing by two goals. Russell Garcia was at his best and demonstrated impressive performance in the second half. He chipped in a couple of goals. Christie created a chance for Garcia
who executed a dribbling shot at the roof of the cage, reducing the lead down to a single goal. In the later time, Garcia received a pass from Fergus Dunn and levelled the score to 3-3.
In the fast and furious game, the Scottish teams continued offensive style of play. In the 61st minute of the game, Alan Forsyth notched the go-ahead goal. In the very next minute, Chris Grassick converted a short-corner and stretched the lead
up to two goals, 5-3.
Amazingly, the final 60 seconds of play was contested at a very fast and furious pace. Yannick Schambert of France firstly managed a goal and decreased the lead down to a single goal. However, Grassick in a counter-offence accounted for another goal and
sealed the victory for Scotland at 6-4. With winning the last game of the contest, the Scottish team stood at the second position in the Celtic Cub just behind Ireland.
