Scotland defeats Italy by 23-12 in Rugby World Cup warm-up: Rugby News
Scotland defeated the Italians by a handsome difference of 23-12 in the Rugby World Cup warm-up fixture in Murrayfield on August 20th. Scotland was seen in an offensive mood from the start of the game and in the end managed an easy victory over Italy. Meanwhile,
Italy had a sluggish game as they were struggling with ball possession and made fewer attacks on the Scottish goals. They were left chasing the hosts and lost un-impressively.
The Scottish side was brilliant with their attack which they launched in the opening moments of the match. They stole an early lead over Italy right in the second minute as Dan Parks kicked a penalty goal for his side. The early lead worked like magic for
Scotland which looked simply unstoppable for Italy during the rest of the game.
Alasdair Dickenson notched first try of the match for Scotland in the ninth minute and took his side to a 8-0 lead. Parks further enhanced the lead to 10-0 with a successful conversion shot and Scotland was looking great with a comprehensive lead.
Tommaso Benvenuti helped his side to bounce back into the match as he stole a much needed try for Italy in the 23rd minute of the match. Mirco Bergamasco complimented it with a conversion shot and reduced the Scottish lead to 7-10. Parks scored
a second three pointer for his side and extended the lead for Scotland to 13-7 to finish the firs-half in great fashion.
Italy scored the only try during the 48th minute of the second-half and there was a huge break to their score until the end. It was the closest point of the match with 13-12 and later on it was added to only by Scotland. The winning side elevated
their lead to 23-12 in the 55th minute of the match which static until the final whistle.
