Scotland defeats Liechtenstein by 3-1 in a 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship match
A 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship – Small Countries Division match took place on April 8, Sunday.
The city of Limassol in Cyprus played host to the game which took place between the two teams of Scotland as well as Liechtenstein.
The match between the two sides took four competitive sets to reach its close with the Scots turning up on the winning side. The first two sets of the match were the most intense and the match was tied at the start of the third set.
However, the Scots were able to secure the third frame with a comfortable margin. With the third set out of their hands, the Liechtenstein players only put in a half hearted effort in the fourth set and consequently lost it by quite a margin.
The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, and 25-17.
The head coach of the Scottish team, Vincent Krawczyk, shared his views by making the following comments, “We made a very good start to the game. I made some changes to the team in the second set and we lost some momentum but we managed to get our composure
back when I moved out setter Nicola McKenzie to the outside and she emerged as our best player.”
The player that was able to earn the title of the top scorer of the match belonged to the Scottish side. Naomi Symonds was able to keep the pressure on her opponents by tallying a total of 19 points in the entire match.
The first set of the match saw the Scots take the lead almost as soon as the frame started. Not only did they take the lead, they extended their advantage with the Liechtenstein squad trailing behind all through.
Before long, the Scots had the lead at 24-16 and even though the Luxembourg came close, they could not secure the opening set as the Scots bagged the frame at 25-22.
The Liechtenstein played well in the second set and made the match reach a tie by securing the set. However, the third as well as the fourth frames went to the Scots at 25-20 and 25-17 respectively.
