Scotland given double injury blow – Rugby News Update
Scotland has been given a major double injury blow, which will see Lee Jones and David Denton both missing out on the three-test summer tour. Scotland play Australia in a Test match on the 5th of June, before they take on the Waratahs on June
10, finally ending the tour with a Tests against Fiji on June 16, and Samoa on June 23.
David Denton, the 22-year-old back-row has been in scintillating form of late, and after injuring his left ankle ligaments, he will miss the summer tour. Clarification on his injury was provided by James Robson, the Scotland team doctor, when he said, "Lee
suffered the fracture in the Heineken Cup semi-final loss to Ulster last month. Injuries of this nature typically resolve over the course of six to eight weeks, so he will not be available for the tour.”
He gave further clarification on his injury, and the time it will take for the back-row to make a comeback to rugby. He said, "Following consultation with John McKinley, the ankle specialist at Spire Murrayfield Hospital, David will not require surgery but
will now embark on a prolonged period of rehabilitation which will rule him out of the summer tour. His estimated return would be between eight to ten weeks."
The 23-year-old Lee Jones, who is an equally adept scrum-half or a wing, will be a big miss for Scotland as well. Having impressed at the 2012 Six Nations tournament, big things are expected of the Edinburgh lad. He made his Scotland debut against England
at Murrayfield, on February 4, 2012 at the Six Nations tournament, and he played in 4 of Scotland’s games. A fractured shoulder blade will keep him out of the summer tour, having previously scored his first try for Scotland during the Six Nations.
Scotland was given a further blow when it was confirmed that Jim Hamilton has been handed a seven-week ban by the Rugby Football Union for his involvement in a brawl when Gloucester played the London Irish.
Scotland will announce their touring party on May 16, and there will be notable omissions from the final squad.
