Scotland prevail over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 in a nail biting finish: Clydesdale Bank 40 - Group B - Second Innings Recap
Although there wasn’t any significant performer in the Scotland’s innings, the team managed to post 120 runs in their allotted 22 overs in a Clydesdale Bank 40-Group B match, at the Grange Cricket Club Ground, Raeburn Place, Edinburgh in Scotland, on Monday,
July 18, 2011.
The conditions remained overcast, which continued to help the bowlers, especially the seamers. The good news for the spectators and both teams was there was no rain after the initial delay, which reduced the game to 22 overs per each side.
Warwickshire needed to bat sensibly in order to chase 121 for victory. The conditions were not ideal for batting, but the team didn’t have to chase a massive target. They would have been disappointed in the end though, losing the match by just four runs.
Only four batsmen in the visitors’ innings managed to reach double figures and the rest were below par. The highest score of the match came from lower-order player, Ant Botha, who finished with 45 runs. His effort went in vain in the end, as there was not
much support for him at the other end.
The pitch had some moisture beneath it at the start of the game and it remained same until the end. The overcast conditions kept the moisture locked under the surface of the wicket, which made conditions challenging for the batsmen.
Warwickshire’s start was a decent on as openers Neil Carter and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Varun-Chopra-c2745 put together 28 runs for the first wicket partnership. The latter struggled to time the ball though and was the first man to be dismissed in the innings after adding 14 runs to
the total from 27 balls. He struck only one four in his unimpressive outing.
Ireland’s, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WTS-Porterfield-c2801 was unable to get going and got out cheaply for three runs in his short stay at the wicket.
Carter was the next wicket to fall in the visitors’ innings. He looked good and collected 17 runs off the same number of deliveries with the help of a couple of boundaries. However, the stylish opener was short of luck, getting run-out after an impressive
start to his innings.
Carter’s wicket saw a collapse for Warwickshire, as wickets started to tumble in the innings. The team’s skipper, Jim Troughton, managed 19 runs, but was unable to carry onto the start he got to his innings and was sent back to the pavilion at a crucial
stage of the match.
Botha didn’t give up hope though, as he played magnificent cricket. He looked the most comfortable batsman amongst both teams and ended up with 45 runs off 24 balls with the help of two fours and three thunderous sixes. He was run-out off the last delivery
of the innings, as the visitors lost the game by four runs.
Josh Davey picked up three wickets in the match for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756, ensuring a good win for his side.
