Scotland set to rumble with Romania in Rugby World Cup opener in Invercargill - Rugby News
Scotland is looking to bag an opening victory in Rugby World Cup 2011 when they take on Romania at Invercargill on September 10. Both sides have been fixed in Pool B along with Argentina, England and Georgia, in a comparatively balanced group. England, Argentina
and Scotland are the top sides of this Pool so the margin of error will be very little for all side during the Pool matches. Scotland coach, Andy Robinson, told the media on September 8 that his side will only settle for victory in the upcoming clash.
Scotland is in a good nick at the moment as they have done all the hard work to start off their Rugby World Cup campaign. They clinched two major victories in the RWC warm up matches played last month. Scotland stunned the Irish side with a solid defence
on August 6 as they won the match despite scoring only 10 points in the while game. Similarly they crushed Italy in their second warm up match with handsome difference of 23-12 on August 20.
The Scottish side has got a rare opportunity to hold some ground early in the tournament as they have got to lollypop competitions at the start and could seal their berth for quarter finals if they won first against Romania and the second against Georgia.
Scotland will face Georgia in its second match September 14 at the same venue.
Talking to the media, Scotland coach Andy Robinson said that his side is well prepared for forthcoming encounter and they will love to grab an early victory. He further said that, “The key aim for us is to win the game. The rest of it takes care of itself.
t's a good Test match. They're a young side with a little bit of experience there - a number of players who play in France for Perpignan.”
He also said that, “The guys are all looking forward to it. They've worked really hard, there's a great team spirit and now it's about delivering a performance.”
Scotland will meet the Romanian side on Saturday September 10 in Invercargill.
