Scotland snap up Jean Symes for the 2012 Clydesdale bank 40 campaign – Cricket News Update
Scotland Saltires, on Monday, snapped up the prolific South African all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johannes-Neethling-c67217 Symes as their overseas player for the 2012 Clydesdale Bank 40 campaign.
He will replace George Worker of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 as the overseas professional for the 2012 season.
The chief executive of Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598, expressed his delight over the deal and hoped that his batting and left-arm spin will work wonders for the Saltires this season.
“We are delighted to have secured Jean to replace http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Herrick-Worker-c59349. As a top order batter and left-arm spinner, he was exactly the type of cricketer we were looking for,” said Roddy Smith while speaking to media reporters after finalising the deal with the
South African all-rounder.
The 25-year-old all-rounder from Johannesburg has been impressive playing for Highveld http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 in South Africa’s domestic circuit. He has also played for Gauteng in the South African domestic cricket.
He also played for South Africa in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup. In a match against Scotland in that tournament, Symes earned the Man of the Match award.
When not on Scotland duty, the hard hitting top-order batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 will also play for Watsonian in the Eastern Premier League.
To date he has played 54 first-class matches, amassing 2865 runs at an average of 34.10. The tally includes six centuries and 12 half centuries, including a career best of 193. He has also taken 65 first-class wickets.
The left hander has also featured in 56 List A matches scoring 1714 runs at an impressive batting average of 32.33, which includes two centuries and 10 fifties.
The promising all-rounder has played in the UK before for Norden CC in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 leagues, and in his two seasons for the club, he scored almost 2,500 runs.
Meanwhile, Scotland has launched their World T20 championship qualifying campaign today in Dubai against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752. Sixteen teams, divided into two groups, are competing for two spots that are available to associate members of the International Cricket Council.
