Scotland tames Georgia by 15-6 as Dan Parks puts on one man show at Invercargill - Rugby News
Scotland grabbed their second consecutive victory in the Rugby World Cup 2011 while routing Georgia by a slight margin of 15-6 at Invercargill on September 14. Dan Parks scored all 15 points for his side on penalty goals. None of the sides scored a single
try in thefixture and left the crowd disappointed with their poor display.
Scotland, after claiming an unimpressive victory over Romania in their first match of the tournament, decided to test new combinations in the forward and back groups. Their head coach, Andy Robinson, applied both personal and positional changes in the match.
Allister Kellock was dropped from the side and scrum-half Rory Lawson was given the full-back responsibilities. Among the other notable changes in the Scotland’s line ups, Nick de Luca and Graeme Morrison were given mid-field duties.
Meanwhile, Georgia kicked off their first RWC adventure with an experienced side and also made some changes to their line-up from their last outing in the Nations Cup that was played in June. Dimitri Basilaia made a comeback into the side, whereas Bidzina
Samkharadze, Lasha Khmaladze and Malkhaz Urjukashvili lost their positions.
The match started in a patience testing mode for the spectators as the sides struggled to get a rhythm going. Georgia scored a penalty goal after 16 minutes of play and took the initial lead over the favourites Scotland. It took a further seven minutes for
Scotland to level the score in the same fashion as Dan Parks shined for his side during the 23rd minute of the match.
Parks scored a couple of more penalty goals for his side before interval and helped Scotland to an lead of 9-3 at the end of first-half.
There was nothing different in the match even after the break and sides relied on penalty goals until the end of the match. The scorer from the first-half, Dan Parks for Scotland and Merab Kvirikashvili for Georgia, made something happen after the break.
Parks scored all 15 points for his side on penalty kicks as did Merab Kvirikashvili for Georgia.
