Scotland target second win against Samoa
Scotland’s attacking coach Gregor Townsend insisted that the team’s 21-17 win against South Africa will be undermined if they cannot win against Samoa on Saturday 27 November. A victory will give Scotland their second win of the Autumn Internationals.
Scotland will be expected to win against Samoa after their victory over the World Champions at the weekend. Townsend told BBC Radio 5 live’s
Sportsweek, "We've got Samoa next and we know they are tough. We need to go into the Six Nations with back-to-back wins."
Scotland have had a fantastic season so far and they have only lost one match in six games. The All Blacks defeated Scotland 49-3, but the Scots recovered superbly against South Africa. "It's a fantastic achievement against the number two side in the world.
We're always looking to improve and I think we are on track, after a poor performance last week," said Townsend.
The Scottish coach reminded the BBC that the Scottish team have claimed a number of significant victories this season. "Three of those wins were away from home, in Ireland and Argentina (twice) and that takes character. There's a real togetherness in the
squad."
Scotland defeated Australia in last year’s Autumn Internationals and Townsend urged his players to improve on that victory by recording successive wins. "A year ago we beat Australia, but we didn't back it up, the following week, so that's our focus."
The team have improved significantly under head coach Andy Robinson, and their result against New Zealand seems to have been a one-off blip. Townsend admitted that the team were not happy with their display against the All Blacks.
"At the beginning of the week, we showed them areas we were very disappointed with and the players were as well. They knew their performance against New Zealand was nowhere near good enough for what is required at international level."
Scotland’s win over South Africa will give them a huge boost before they take on Samoa.
