Scotland will aim to frustrate
Scotland midfielder Darren Fletcher has said that his team will aim to frustrate the Czech Republic and Spain in their two up-and-coming European Championship qualifiers.
Scotland leads the group on goal difference from Lithuania, but both teams have played one game more than Spain and the Czech Republic.
The Scots will play the Czechs away from home and all the pressure will be on the home side who are expected to win, and lost their opening game to Lithuania.
Fletcher said, "We would obviously love to win the game but if we can get any sort of result it would be a positive in terms of qualifying.
"We want to win both games, but I think being difficult to beat is sometimes just as important. Our job is to frustrate them and make it as difficult as possible," added the Scottish Captain.
If Scotland are to frustrate the Czech Republic they will have to keep the ball to relieve pressure and the Manchester United midfielder will be crucial in that respect.
The Scotland captain believes that they can win if they defend well and get numbers behind the ball.
They had similar problems defeating Liechtenstein in their last match and only managed to seal a win in the sixth minute of injury time.
Fletcher said, "I think if we were to win the game, it would make it very difficult for them but they wouldn't be out of it. We saw (that) in the Liechtenstein game and how difficult it was for us.”
The Czech Republic manager Michal Bilek is expecting a battle and said, "When we played Scotland the last time, the style was pretty unpleasant. I'm not trying to say they're like the typical Scottish and English teams of 30 years ago. What I mean is they
are pretty aggressive and fight for every inch of the pitch.”
