Scotland’s Imogen Bankier and Susan Egelstaff to represent Great Britain at Olympic Games 2012
The joy of Scotland’s two talented shuttlers Imogen Bankier and Susan Egelstaff knew no bounds when they got the news of their inclusion in Great Britain’s team for participating at the Olympic Games 2012 which are less than two months away.
Bankier and her English partner Chris Adcock have been placed at number 10 in Mixed Doubles world rankings.
They have been showing a steady performance for the last one year and have earned precious ranking points to reach into the top-10 bracket and have got the prize in the form of selection in Britain’s team for Olympics.
While talking about the couple’s performance at the World Championships 2011, Bankier said that finishing as the finals was a huge breakthrough.
She also said that the Olympic qualification period was nerve wrecking as they had to keep the momentum high in order to maintain a higher world ranking.
She said, “Getting the silver medal at the worlds was the big breakthrough. The qualification period was very stressful and I’m just glad it’s over and we can now look forward to the Games. We have worked really hard to acquire this opportunity and we intend
not to waste it.”
On the other hand, the 34 ranked Women’s Singles shuttler Egelstaff, who has been playing superb badminton for the last one year, was extremely happy after becoming a part of Britain’s team for Olympic Games.
Egelstaff got a severe injury in her knee last year but she showed her determination and overcame that injury and also proved her worth to by putting up superb show of quality badminton in different events to find a spot in Britain’s Olympic squad.
She said, “I have been through every emotion and it has been such a tough campaign. But now it is brilliant to have made the team. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m really looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd.”
Both Scottish female shuttlers, Bankier and Egelstaff showed their steady determination and consistent performance at international stage and remained successful in becoming a part of Britain’s squad for Olympic Games.
England’s Adcock and Rajiv Ouseph will join them at Olympics in front of their home crowd at Wembley Arena in London.
