Scotland’s John Higgins aiming to retain World title – Snooker News
Qualifiers of the upcoming mega event of snooker, the 2012 World Snooker Championship are underway at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield where potters are trying their best to win the qualifying session and hit the initial stages of the tournament against
top guns of snooker.
The environment at the arena is getting more thrilling with each passing day as the tournament brings all potters under one roof at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
Reigning World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins clinched the Championship last year beating the 2011 UK Champion, England’s Judd Trump after a tussling encounter with the youngster. After that, the Champ has not been able to win any major ranking
tournament so far because he failed to play according to the standards in the professional circuit.
The Scotsman believes that he has to pull up his socks and regain his form so that he can enable himself to retain his title. The Wizard of Wishaw is practising hard in his club and is preparing himself for the tough challenges he feels he will face during
his run in the event. Many new faces have emerged during the season’s major competitions that have the spark to challenge him for the Championship title.
Speaking to the media about his ambitions, Higgins said, “I’ve always believed that you only get out of life what you put into it. I’ve only got out of this season what I’ve put into it, which is nothing really. It’s not been nice going to the events where
you know you’re not much of a runner.”
The 36-year-old added, “I’m not too confident, but I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve been hammering the practice table this last week and I’ve still got time to sharpen my game up. I can’t wait to get there and play in the World Championship again.”
Higgins is quite ambitious about winning the Championship again and to add another world title in his account. He is the fourth potter in the history of snooker, after Stephen Hendry, Steve Davis and Ray Reardon, that has clinched four world titles. It will
be interesting to see how well Higgins can perform in the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
