Scotland’s John Higgins believes he needed a wake-up call: 2012 World Snooker Champion
Snooker fans around the World are desperately waiting the 2012 World Snooker Championship to begin at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield so that they can watch their favourite players in action.
The potters have been placed in their respective draws and the contest will commence from April 21 with the inaugural match between the reigning World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins and China’s Liang Wenbo.
Meanwhile, Higgins was worried about his performance in the Championship because his season campaign did not bring any good news for him throughout the circuit and he tumbled down as compared to other potters. He has been practising hard at the table to
improve his form so that he can defend his title with all that he has.
The Wizard of Wishaw was on top of the League in the previous season and clinched six titles to prove his class but after that he tumbled down in 2011-12 Snooker Season and lost his place as one of the top contenders of the game. The 36-year-old believes
that like every potter, he also needed a wake-up call to enhance his game and regain his good form.
Speaking to the local reporters, Higgins said, “I think sometimes you need a wake-up call to be honest. I've only got out of this season what I've deserved, which is nothing. If you don't feel as though you're putting the effort in, and don't want to put
the effort in, then that's probably the main reason why I've not done well.”
The Scotsman added, “But there's a desire to be there and to want to give a proper defence of your title. It's going to be very tough, but something I'm really looking forward to. I've probably not strung a week's practice together all season.”
Higgins also stated that when a potter is not performing at the baize then defending the World title at a place like Crucible Theatre becomes difficult. To be able to handle the pressure at the Crucible arena, the potter must have a lot of confidence and
self control. It will be interesting to see how Higgins manages to improve his performance and build some much needed confidence in his play.
