Scotland’s John Higgins faces China’s Liang Wenbo in first round: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Draws of the first round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship have been formulated after the final round of qualifying session ended at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield on April 16. The new draws are not up to the expectations of the potters as the
top dogs of snooker have been drawn against tough challengers who can trouble them during the game.
The defending World Snooker Champion from Scotland, John Higgins has set up the Chinese potter, Liang Wenbo, clash in the Last 32 round of the Championship. The Champ has been handed a tough draw at the baize because Wenbo has performed tremendously in the
recent season. The Chinese had a tussling final qualifier against Scotland’s Marcus Campbell and defeated him by a close score line of 10-9.
Higgins has not performed up to the mark in this season which worries him as he feels he does not have the preparation to defend his title. However, he is practising hard and is hopeful to play well against the Chinese. Wenbo, on the other hand, will be
looking forward to cash the opportunity and make his Crucible dream a success.
Speaking to the local media about his form, Higgins said, “I have not had a good season, but I have come to the Crucible before having not played well and produced some of my best form. Hopefully, that's what will happen this year, but I know it's going
to be tough.”
Meanwhile, World Number one, England’s Mark Selby has been placed against the 2012 Snooker Shootout winner, Barry Hawkins in the opening round of 2012 World Snooker Championship. Selby has been a superb performer in the 2011-12 Snooker Season. He clinched
the 2011 Wuxi Classic and the 2011 Shanghai Masters during his run and hit the World Number one spot.
Even after that, the Jester from Leicester has played well according to his standards and reached the finals stages of many major ranking snooker events. He successfully sustained his top spot with his terrific form in the season. He will surely face his
opponent with hard cue but Hawkins also has the spark to unsettle his opponents with his tricky and furious game play so the game will be interesting to watch.
