Scotland’s John Higgins sets up Peter Ebdon or Matthew Stevens clash in round 2 of 2012 China Open
World Number six, Scotland’s John Higgins put up an excellent snooker display at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena against the Englishman, Rory McLeod in the first round of the 2012 China Open snooker tournament. With this victory, the Scotsman
has surged into the second round where he will meet the former World Snooker Champion from England, Peter Ebdon or Wales’ Matthew Stevens.
Higgins’ performance against McLeod was outstanding as he cruised into the match lead quickly after he started playing. The reigning World Snooker Champion pocketed some impressive clearances of 62, 61, 90 and 58 to hit the 5-1 winning score line. McLeod,
on the other hand, was able to win only one frame and tumbled down in the rest.
The Wizard of Wishaw believes that his match up with Ebdon will be one of the toughest games ever because he has played against him in the past. The Scottish potter is looking forward to make an appearance at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena
and clinch the match to hit the quarter-final stage of the 2012 China Open.
As far as his performance against Stevens is concerned, he does not have a strong track record against him either. He has faced the Welshman four times in his career and was successful in two of the games he played against him. Even if he faces Stevens in
the second round, the clash will be tussling one.
While speaking to World Snooker, Higgins said, “It's going to be a very tough match against Peter or Matthew. Matthew is playing back to his normal form, he's back in the top 16, and obviously Peter is struggling a little bit for confidence. But Peter was
one of the champions here before and if he gets through he will raise his game and he will be hoping to go on and win the tournament.”
Meanwhile, the former two-time World Snooker Champion, Mark Williams cruised into second round after beating China’s Jin Long by the score line of 5-1. The Welsh Potting Machine will play against the Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan in the second round.
