Scotland’s Stephen Hendry hopeful for Crucible return – Snooker News
Snooker fans from around the world are anxiously waiting for the ultimate mega event of the 2011-12 Snooker Season, the 2012 World Snooker Championship to commence from April 21 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, as all the top guns of the game will be
battling for the title under the one roof. The potters on the other hand are as curious as the fans to participate and clinch the Crucible glory.
Recently, the qualifying session of the tournament is being proceeded at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield where the former World Snooker Champions like the Scotsman Stephen Hendry are waiting for their turn to play. Hendry is aiming to hit the Crucible
Theatre arena this year and is determined to play with all his might and qualify for the initial round of the tournament.
Last year he successfully surged into the first round of the 2011 World Snooker Championship and played impressively in the competition. He reached the second round of the contest against the World Number one, England’s Mark Selby where he lost to the Englishman
by the core line 4-13.
The veteran was quite disappointed after losing in the second round and even thought to quite the game for good but after consulting his family, the Golden Boy decided to stay in the circuit but play in major events only. This year he is aiming to make an
appearance in the qualifiers and surge into the televised stages of the tournament and, if luck favours him, win the title for the eighth time.
Speaking to the media about his ambitions, Hendry said, “It would mean a lot to me to get back to the Crucible and keep the run going. Much as I enjoy my new work with the BBC, not playing in Sheffield would feel strange. My game is still there, it is the
consistency that has let me down. My style won’t change though – I will go for my shots”
Hendry is currently placed in the final round of the qualifiers where he will meet the Chinese potter, Yu Delu for the ultimate match to book the first round spot in the tournament.
