Scotland’s Stephen Maguire happy after winning PTC 12 at Event Forum in Fürstenfeldbruck, Germany
Scottish professional snooker player, Stephen Maguire, has been struggling from the start of the 2011-12 Snooker Season. Despite reaching the quarter-finals of some events since the season started in June 2011, Maguire has not been able to win any major
or minor tournament so far.
Regardless of his poor performance in the current season, Maguire stuck to the game and kept working hard. His efforts paid off when he reached the final of the 2012 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 12 and clinched his first title of the season beating
England’s Joe Perry 4-2. His match-up against the Englishman was an easy encounter and he is quite happy after winning his first title.
Speaking to the local media at the conclusion of PTC 12, Maguire said, “I played really well in the final, that was the best match I played in the event and it's nice to do that in the final. I didn't practise at all over Christmas so I didn't expect much
coming here, but maybe that's the secret.”
The 30-year-old added, “To win any tournament these days is a good achievement and it gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season. I'm really looking forward to the Masters next week and hoping I can get a run going.”
Now, the Glasgow potter will be heading to Alexandra Palace in London to take part in the 2012 Masters, where he will meet the Welsh Potting Machine, Mark Williams, in the initial round. After the Masters’ event, he will go to Tower Circus in Blackpool to
play in the Snooker Shoot-Out tournament. Maguire will be meeting compatriot, Anthony McGill in Round 1.
In the previous season, Maguire could not participate in the 2011 German Masters, as he had to pull out of the event due to the birth of his daughter but this year the Scotsman has confirmed his presence at the Tempodrom in Berlin.
Maggi stated that missing the last year’s German Masters was a shame because he put a lot of work into qualifying for the finals, but as his family comes first, he had to be with them. He has now ensured that he will definitely participate in the 2012 German
Masters.
The Livewire is up against Wales’ Ryan Day in the first round of 2012 German Masters. The tournament will commence on February 1.
