Scotland’s Stephen Maguire preparing for 2012 World Snooker Championship
Runner up in the 2012 China Open snooker tournament, Scotland’s Stephen Maguire has forgot about the past and is now preparing himself for the upcoming mega event of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. He lost against the former World Snooker Champion from
England, Peter Ebdon, in the final encounter of the Chinese event by the score line of 10-9.
During his Beijing campaign, the Scotsman displayed superb performance at the baize with his sparking cue stick. He defeated the 2012 Snooker Shootout winner, Barry Hawkins 5-1 in Round 1, former Shanghai Masters winner Ricky Walden 5-4 in Round 2, former
three-time World Snooker Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan 5-4 in the quarter-finals and the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals winner Stephen Lee 6-2 in the semis.
Despite losing to Ebdon in the final after a tussling game, Maguire is satisfied with his performance in the event. The 2012 China Open final was his second major ranking event final match after the 2012 German Masters where he lost to O’Sullivan. So far
in the recent season, he has not won any major or minor snooker event which is definitely a bit disappointing for him.
However, he is not looking back now because he has something big coming his way when he will be playing at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield among the top guns again. The Maggi is eyeing to make an appearance in the mega event.
Speaking to the media, Maguire said, “It's good that I've beaten three of four of the best players. It's obviously disappointing right now, but tomorrow when I look back at it, it's another final. I've lost my last three or four finals now and it's nipping
at me a little bit, especially that one there. The way things are going, I'll get to the Crucible, get to the final, and get beat!”
He hailed Ebdon saying, “Peter outplayed me, totally, in the first session. There was absolutely nothing I could do, and I seemed to be sitting in my seat for long periods of time. I mean, if he's dominating the table, there's nothing I can do about that.”
Maguire will be looking to put in a good performance at the 2012 World Snooker Championship, where he might face England’s Mark Davis.
