Scotland’s Stephen Maguire trounces England’s Shaun Murphy in semi-final: 2012 German Masters
Spectators at the Tempodrom arena in Berlin witnessed a one-sided semi-final encounter at the 2012 German Masters between Scotland’s Stephen Maguire and England’s Shaun Murphy as the Scotsman cruised into the match victory in no time. Maguire grabbed a whitewash
victory over the former World Snooker Champion after he ousted him in all the six frames.
The World Number seven showed a mature game play from the start of the match. The Scotsman stopped Shaun Murphy’s proceedings with his classy shots in a surprisingly one-way affair. Murphy, on the other hand, had no chance to capitalise back and was not
able to produce the kind of performance he had been displaying in the 2012 German Masters tournament.
The Glasgow potter stormed into a 3-0 lead as he fired some incredible snooker shots to compile outstanding knocks of 77, 52 and 48. Murphy drew first blood in the fourth frame and grabbed an early lead after pocketing a fine knock of 65 in reply to Maguire’s
41 points. At that point, the frame seemed to finish in Murphy’s favour but it did not happen as he missed the final red to let Maguire come at the table and clear it in no time.
The 30-year-old Maguire continued his dominance in the game in the next frame with a cracking knock of 62 and moved within a five frame lead over the Englishman. The Livewire potted a stunning clearance of 97 points to claim the sixth frame and win the semi-final
encounter of 2012 German Masters. The Scotsman was surprised after winning the match.
Maguire, after his penultimate clash said, “I wasn't expecting that. I thought that if I won it would be a close match. To win 6-0 is a big bonus. I won the first frame in one visit, and when you do that you put your opponent under pressure from the start.”
He added, “He had chances to win the second frame but he never settled and he was just trying to get a frame on the board. I don't usually play on when I need two snookers but I decided to give it one try and see what happened. He played a bad shot and should
never have left me a free ball. At 4-0 I was in a great position.”
Maguire has now set a clash against Ronnie O’Sullivan in the final encounter of the tournament.
