Scotland’s Under-16 women side head their way to Mannheim for the Four-nations challenge: Hockey News
A Four-nation challenge is to take place among the Under-16 women hockey teams, from June 11-13, at the Mannheim Hockey Centre in Germany.
Scotland’s junior side is all set-off to their event's destination today, June 8, at Mannheim. The team will be playing the three opponent teams one by one, with only one match daily.
The final eighteen members of this squad that has been announced by their Head Coach, Elaine Brierley, will be facing-off, this week, against three of the best Under-16 teams from Europe namely Netherland, Germany and Belgium.
Brierley was very happy with the team’s improvement in the last few months and acknowledged the way they quickly learnt the method of playing at the international level, despite the fact that they just passed out of school and club teams.
He confidently stated, "The warm-up matches have been crucial to us as it has allowed us to try a number of things and combinations and I feel the squad picked is one that can go to Germany and give a good account of themselves."
The team’s first match will be played against Netherlands followed by one against the host, Germans and then Belgium. The coach seemed serious about the tour and stated, "We are under no illusions though. These will be three very tough tests and, with them
coming in a three-day spell, the girls will have to work extremely hard to compete against the calibre of players they will likely be facing."
During the same time, Scotland’s senior men will also be busy playing a Four-nation Tournament at the Sportscotland National Centre, Inverclyde from June 11-13. The other three teams to take part in the event are Germany, England and Spain.
For the purpose, the Head Coach of the team, Russell Garcia, announced 21 players for the event with a belief that these matches will be very challenging for the Scottish women as they will face-off teams from the World’s top five.
The final Under-16 Scottish women squad that left for Germany include Emily Newlands, Alison Hendry, Jenny Eadie, Kirsty Johnston, Eliza Stubing, Maisie Morris, Kerry-Anne Hastings, Waverley Miller, Catriona McLellan, Kirsten Peters, Laurie Kirkland, Rebecca
Trimble, Evie Travers, Susan Graham, Georgina Black, Jessica Ross and Lucy Ramsay.
