Scotswell in lead of the line-up for the Waverley TBS Handicap Hurdle at Kelso on 2nd May
The Class 3 Waverley TBS Handicap Hurdle will be hosted by Kelso over two miles, six furlongs and 110 yards on Wednesday, 2nd May. The £4,549 purse race has attracted a line-up of eight runners who are four-year and older.
Only one entry among all the contestants has not only raced but won at Kelso that also during the new season. Scotswell, Endoli’s six-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Tofino Swell, won at Kelso through the second seasonal start.
He penetrated into the season on 17th March in the Guinness Handicap Hurdle at Newcastle over three miles. The title was taken away by the 7/2 favourite of the race, Cloudy Too, who was riding with Jonathan England. Finishing the race closet to
the winner was Rudemeister.
Striding on for the third slot was Scotswell with Gary Rutherford onboard.
The six-year-old did not have to wait very long for posting a seasonal success as he took charge of the John Rowe’s Last Racecourse 60th Handicap Hurdle on 24th March at Kelso over two miles and six and a half furlong.
Scotswell led the runner up of the race, Easement, by two and a half lengths and was soon followed by Pyjama Game. The 7/2 favourite of the race, Highrate, had to be pulled up from the race.
On 20th April, Scotswell fell during the 3663 Inspired By You Novices’ Handicap Hurdle at Ayr over three miles and half a furlong. Malin Bay won the race with What A Steel settling in as the runner up.
Scotswell raced at Kelso thrice during the previous season with ending ninth in the first two attempts and then scoring a second position during the third outing at the race course.
He trailed behind the winner, Soprano, by eight lengths in the Graeme Todd Haulage And Friends Handicap Hurdle on 5th November over three miles and three furlongs.
More Equity secured the third position while the 100/30 favourite of the race, King Fontaine, got pulled up.
Ever since the six-year-old has started his 2012 campaign, he has kept a reasonably decent ranking, not driving down the third position.
Scotswell has all the chances of bagging the second success of the season and celebrating for a second time at Kelso today.
