Scott Boras endorses shut-down decision of Washington Nationals’ Stephen Strasburg - MLB Update
Stephen Strasburg’s agent Scott Boras supports the decision to shut-down Stephen Strasburg taken by the Washington Nationals’ General Manager Mike Rizzo. However he has clarified that he did not have a say when such an idea was being deliberated upon by
the management and that whatever Rizzo has decided about him is purely independent of his role for the pitcher.
Boras believes by the time the contract between Strasburg and the Nationals had been inked, trying to influence the decision about the pitcher was beyond his jurisdiction.
Scott has earlier been found giving hints about his possible complicity with the management regarding the discussions about the pitcher and his shut-down. He has even been heard uttering that he along with Rizzo is trying to draw a plan for the better utilisation
of Strasburg after his surgery.
That had encouraged experts to believe that whatever Rizzo announces ultimately will account for the opinion of Boras.
As Boras has been asked regarding this, he has maintained a completely different stance stating he did not have any role in the negotiations that took place in the management concerning the shut-down.
Boras has justified his assertion on the premise that Rizzo is a kind of General Manager who never lets his decisions get influenced by others. Furthermore he is of the view that all the officials have worked within the boundaries imposed on them by their
jobs and that he is no different.
"Do you think Mike Rizzo's personality is attuned to having someone call him and tell him what to do with his particular team? Come on. Certainly, I try to give teams insights and information. But when you're not there every day, how can you make these calls?
It's not my place or anybody's place unless you're there. A manager has a job. A general manager has a job, and that's what they should do. They make these decisions. I don't,'' Boras said.
Strasburg is done for the season and will now be returning next year. Until then he will be trying to keep his arms in perfect condition.
He will be looking to start the next season from where he has left and win games on a regular basis.
