Scott Boras gets call from Red Sox on Jayson Werth
It is an off-season in Major League Baseball and with over 160 free agents heading to the market zone with agents, top teams are looking to rebuild on their existing club structure with additions on their roster. One club, in particular,
that seems to be doing a lot to look for replacements is none other than the Boston Red Sox. With David Ortiz returning on a 1-year deal and Adrian Beltre declining a $10 million option, there have been shortages of experienced players in the designated hitter
and 3rd baseman department. The pursuit for the right batters is on and the ball club is one of the 30 teams active in the short window open now.
Major League Baseball has its fair share of excitement. Most of the action usually takes on both sides, on and off field. The options available are numerous but many hitters in the league are looking for the right appeal from the
clubs to sign on. One of the hottest speculative picks of the season is Cliff Lee. The top pitcher in the free market is on the wish list of the New York Yankees. It is only right to say that the Red Sox are no less in chase of a high tier player in the market
now.
Jayson Werth has done his best in his recent years with the Philadelphia Phillies. His impressive knock against the Cincinnati Reds and the San Francisco Giants was admirable to say the least. He left the club looking for a better
option; with his age crossing over to 31, the timing was impeccable. It does not hurt to look for a better club and a long contract signing that ensures good compensation and guaranteed play on the pitch.
Werth has a batting average of .296 and his performance during the recent season witnessed him score some important runs in competitive games. The veteran smasher slammed 27 home runs out of the field and batted in 85 runs to mark
the tenure in the National League. He scored 100 runs and hit 164 during the regular league season.
In the post season, he did more by scoring 5 runs from 6 hits in 9 games. He was only able to smash 2 home runs for the Phillies before they crashed out of the post season against the San Francisco Giants.
