Scott Boras scheduled to meet Cleveland Indians’ GM Chris Antonetti – MLB News
A renowned Major League Baseball agent Scott Boras has stated that he is preparing a very important meeting with the Cleveland Indians’ organisation to discuss his clients’ future. He was present at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee where MLB GM’s annual meeting
was held on Monday.
Boras stated about his potential clients, some of them are now free agents and looking for a good contract. He told the media mentioning his clients especially Prince Fielder, along with Edwin Jackson, Johnny Damon, J.D. Drew, Ryan Madson, Magglio Ordonez,
Carlos Pena, Francisco Rodriguez, Bruce Chen, Rick Ankiel, Andruw Jones and Mike Gonzalez.
Scott commented that he will be discussing with Antonetti over many players next contracts along with salary related matters. This is also a fact regarding Boras’ capabilities of taking care of his clients. Usually his clients get a healthy financial contract
if compared to other players’ agents.
However, when some reporters asked him a question as how he is looking at Albert Pujols free agency and how Prince Fielder and Pujols are in similar kind of situation at the moment.
Boras said, “I don’t think Pujols and Fielder are in any way related in the market place, I think their markets are separate and distinct. I think they are different for a lot of reasons, the primary one being age, Prince has done some things between ages
22 and 26 that he performed essentially the same production levels that Pujols did in his prime from 27 and 31, Prince is somebody both a current club and a future club could invest in.”
Boras’ remarks over Albert Pujols’ chances to end up with a good contract with another team did spark little in the media but overall his comparison with Fielder’s free agency was totally on statistical base.
This factor is an important part in Prince Fielder’s free agency as he has decided to leave the Milwaukee Brewers and at the same time use Scott Boras’ negotiating skills in the near future. Both want to grab a good contract from a potential MLB team.
The Indians might consider Fielder after the meeting with his agent but many experts agree that this will not happen any time soon because of the simple reason of the Indians poor financial credentials as they cannot afford Prince Fielder.
